in sketch for the cover of 'Hieper'. I've tried to make a drawing which shows an action without the action itself. And is the result of the overexcited and flamable character of Hieper.

Theo&Ria

Today I made a small painting for the Museum of literature in the Hague. The two mosquito's Theo and Ria are intergrated in al large painting of Sieb Posthuma, which is the decor of an exhibition on picturebooks and childrens poetry/literature. Next to Theo&Ria is 'Superguppie' of Fleur van der Weel and the balcony's below are filled with the caracters of 'Wiplala', painted by Philip Hopman.

The mum of Hieper is in concept. In the story she carries a bucket of water with her like a handbag. To protect burnings from happening.

ipad promo!

Today I got a first glimps of (soon available in the Apple store) the app of 'The competition'. This app will be made compatable for the ipad, iphone en ipod-touch. When you touch the screen you can scroll over the page to get the 'whole picture'. Because the original book is made on a scale which does not fit the ipad format. When you scroll over the pictures everything has a sound hidden and native speakers will read in the chosen language as you press karaoke. The words will light up in red and a child can follow the sentences.

The next step in sketch...

babysteps but nescecery to make a good cover. I think Hieper is still a bit too much a hippo! His jacket makes him a dragon, but not dragon enough. Back to the drawing board.
